The Collect for the Tenth Week of Ordinary Time:
[During Ordinary Time, the masses during the week use the same collect as the previous Sunday]“O God, from whom all good things come, grant that we, who call on you in our need, may at your prompting discern what is right, and by your guidance do it. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.”
Reflection
We call on God in our need precisely because all good things come from him. The prayer does not end there, but prepares us to move beyond our own concerns. Though we know that good comes from God, we do not always recognize what is good and right. Thus, in addition to our need for good things like health, food, and shelter, we need wisdom and discernment. We beseech God’s grace to be with us not only in knowing what is right, but also throughout the entire process so that God is involved in every aspect and every stage of our lives.
So, for your daily contribution to the Church’s collection of prayer,
Reflect on how whether you really recognize that all good comes from God or not. Pray for a greater sense of gratitude and for the desire to do what is right, no matter what. Then spiritually unite that prayer to all the Masses throughout the world today. That way, when the priest says “Let us pray,” you can be a part of that “us” even if you don’t get to attend Mass.
