Daily Collection: Trinity Sunday

The Collect for the Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity:

“God our Father, who by sending into the world the Word of truth and the Spirit of sanctification made known to the human race your wondrous mystery, grant us, we pray, that in profession the true faith, we may acknowledge the Trinity of eternal glory and adore your Unity, powerful in majesty. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.”

Reflection

Our prayer begins by recalling the truth that the Trinity is a revelation; It is knowledge we could not have gained on our own. This revelation was made by Jesus (the Word of Truth) and through the Holy Spirit (of sanctification). Then we go on to pray for the grace to hold to this revealed truth. In particular, the prayer asks us to have the faith to hold onto both the Unity and the Trinity that is God. As a mystery, it is not something we can fully comprehend, but it nonetheless is something that should inspire praise and gratitude, which is why we also pray for the grace to do just that.

So, for your daily contribution to the Church’s collection of prayer,

Ponder the mystery of the Trinity. Let it be something that awes you or even causes your brain to hurt a little. Pray for the humility and faith not to assume you understand, but to always approach this mystery with love and reverence. Then spiritually unite that prayer to all the Masses throughout the world today. That way, when the priest says “Let us pray,” you can be a part of that “us” even if you don’t get to attend Mass.
{It is Sunday, so I hope you can make it!}
