The Collect for the Sixth Sunday of Easter is:
“Grant, almighty God, that we may celebrate with heartfelt devotion these days of joy, which we keep in honor of the risen Lord, and that what we relieve in remembrance we may always hold to in what we do. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, Your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.”
Reflection
We are still in the Easter season, which means we are still celebrating the risen Lord. Such a long season can become boring to us, so we invoke God’s help for us to persevere in the heartfelt devotion this season calls for. In the liturgy, we remember and relive the fact that Jesus rose from the dead, but it is essential for that to spill over into our daily lives. We pray that our every decision is made in a way that shows we believe that Christ’s resurrection and the promise of eternal life are very real.
So, for your daily contribution to the Church’s collection of prayer,
Reflect on your Easter Joy. Do you approach the Mass as a way to foster that joy and to truly celebrate, or as a simple obligation? Pray for the grace enter fully into the Mystery of the Mass and to let it’s grace spill into the rest of your life. Then spiritually unite that prayer to all the Masses throughout the world today. That way, when the priest says “Let us pray,” you can be a part of that “us” even if you don’t get to attend Mass.
{It is Sunday, so I hope you can make it!}
