The Collect for Saturday of the Third Week of Easter is:
“O God, who in the font of Baptism have made new those who believe in you, keep safe those reborn in Christ, that, defeating every onslaught of error, they may faithfully preserve the grace of your blessing. Through our Lord Jesus Christ Your Son who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.”
Reflection
People who have been baptized are new creatures. This is not common knowledge or a popular thing to say. Still, the baptized are Children of God in a way that the unbaptized are not. This is a real gift and one that must be honored and kept safe. Hence, we pray for security, for “preserving the grace of [God’s] blessing.” Notice that this requires us to defeat the onslaught of error. Knowing the truth and escaping error is part of God’s blessing. In a time of relativism and skepticism, we must pray to cling to what Christ says “the Truth will set you free.”
So, for your daily contribution to the Church’s collection of prayer,
Examine your acceptance of Church Teaching. Are there any doctrines or dogmas that you struggle with? Take the time to reflect on whether or not your resistance is rooted in a sincere conviction or is perhaps an “onslaught of error.” Pray for the grace to honestly seek the Truth and in the Truth to stay close to God’s blessing. Then spiritually unite that prayer to all the Masses throughout the world today. That way, when the priest says “Let us pray,” you can be a part of that “us” even if you don’t get to attend Mass.
