Pope Francis Endorses Albert the Ordinary!

Okay, that title was kind of click-bait

“Thumbs up to Albert the Ordinary!” 1

But, it a very real sense it is true. When I created “Albert the Ordinary,” I did not know that Pope Francis was planning to write a whole 44 page exhortation on ordinary holiness, but he did! On the Solemnity of the Annunciation, the Vatican released Gaudete et Exsultate: On The Call To Holiness In Today’s World. In essence, the whole point of the document is to tell the whole world, all those ordinary people out there, that they too can and should be holy! The Holy Father says:

“I would like to insist primarily on the call to holiness that the Lord addresses to each of us, the call that he also addresses, personally, to you… ‘we need only find a more perfect way of doing what we are already doing… There are inspirations that tend solely to perfect in an extraordinary way the ordinary things we do in life.'”

That’s My Mission

That’s what I want to do with this website/blog and I’m pretty pumped that Pope Francis is with me on this. Of course, it’s probably fairer to say that I’m on board with him or that both of us are on board with the whole Church under the guidance of the Holy Spirit. And the idea that even ordinary people can be holy is not a new idea, but it has gotten some more attention in the last hundred years.

And what more fitting time than the Annunciation to release this proclamation! The day we recall Mary’s unique call, we are now exhorted to hear our own call from God to serve him in holiness. Here’s my homily from today’s Mass on that very subject:

So, here is what you can do to get in on it:

Read my introductory pages on why and how you can be holy. Then, follow me on Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn or through e-mail (links on right side of page –>). I’ll keep putting out homilies, reflections, and other posts mostly dedicated to helping you find holiness in ordinary life. Then, respond to, comment on, and share the posts that you think are particularly helpful.

Got a question?

About finding holiness in your life or holiness in general? Go on over to Contact Me and shoot me a message. I’ll respond to you within a few days and your question might even make it into it’s own blog post! (Identifying information will be changed or left out).

Regardless of what you do, get out there and get holy!
