Collect taken from the Feast of St. Andrew, Apostle and Martyr
Collect: We humbly implore your majesty, O Lord, that, just as the blessed Apostle Andrew was for your Church a preacher and pastor, so he may be for us a constant intercessor before you. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son…
“We humbly implore your majesty, O Lord, that, just as the blessed Apostle Andrew was for your Church a preacher and pastor”
– Every time we celebrate an Apostle, we recall the importance and majesty of God’s word and the need for men to proclaim it to the world.
“so he may be for us a constant intercessor before you”
– Though Andrew no longer serves God’s word here on earth, he continues to serve by interceding with the Word for the benefit of the Church still on earth.
Question & Advice: Do you proclaim the Word of God? Do you allow that fake “quote” from St. Francis to justify not talking about the Gospel? It is all too easy to allow fear to keep us silent and the comfort ourselves with a vague hope that our example is enough. Our example absolutely necessary, no doubt, but part of our example is that we talk about what we love. If a man never talks about the woman he’s dating or about his wife, would you believe he loved her just because he never actually cheats on her?
Look for an opportunity to today to talk to someone about the Gospel or about Jesus. Don’t beat them over the head with various moral and theological truths. A simple question about what they know/think about Jesus or the Gospels is a good way to start. Also, consider praying the St. Andrew Christmas Novena and ask for the grace to preach the Lord for whose coming we are preparing this advent.
