Collect: O God, who made your Priest Blessed Francis Xavier Seelos outstanding in love, that he might proclaim the mysteries of redemption and comfort those in affliction, grant, by his intercession, that we may work zealously for your glory and for the salvation of mankind. “O God, who made your Priest Blessed Francis Xavier Seelos outstanding in love, that he might proclaim the mysteries of redemption and comfort those in affliction”
– Proclaiming the mysteries of redemption and comforting the afflicted are not actions we human beings would take naturally. It requires that we be given the supernatural virtue of love, which comes from the God who is love, which is why we praise God for what Francis Xavier Seelos did.
“grant, by his intercession, that we may work zealously for your glory and for the salvation of mankind.“
– The only two things worthwhile in this life are the glory of God and the salvation of mankind. Hoping to be moved by the same love as Seelos, we beg his intercession in order to better pursue these worthy goals.
Questions & Advice: Do you proclaim the mysteries of redemption? Comfort the afflicted? How often does the “glory of God” come to mind as a motivation?
Take a look at the Catechism’s teaching on the holiness of the Church and her members (823-829). The soul holiness is charity – love like we see in Seelos. Spend some of your daily prayer time reflecting on how seriously you take the call to holiness. Then resolve to keep and eye out for an opportunity to comfort someone who is afflicted.
