“May you be magnified, O Lord, by the revered memory of your Saints Cosmas and Damian,”
-The Glory of God is the highest goal and so we begin our prayer asking that honoring these saints might increase our awe and love of God.
“for with providence beyond words you have conferred on them everlasting glory, and on us, your unfailing help.”
– Word’s fail us in describing how God’s design all comes together, but we do know that it is God’s nature to give because the nature of Love is to give. Thus, we remember how generously God gave the grace to these martyrs to endure death for the faith and how God continues to offer us help.
Questions & Advice: Are you willing to die a martyr for the faith? Is your goal in life to serve the Glory of God or of yourself?
Take another look at the Catechism’s teaching on martyrs (1173). Cosmas and Damian are among the few saints whose names are in Eucharistic Prayer I. Read over the prayer and reflect on how the Eucharist connects Christians across thousands of years. Cosmas and Damian were doctors, so pray especially for those in medicine. They were also twin brothers, so pray for twins that you know.
