Collect taken from Twenty-Fourth Week of Ordinary Time.
Collect: Look upon us, O God, Creator and ruler of all things, and, that we may feel the working of your mercy, grant that we may serve you with all our heart. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son…
“Look upon us, O God, Creator and ruler of all things,”
– It is an act of faith and confidence to so simply ask for the almighty creator to look upon us in our smallness. Billions of starts and billions of years, but we feel comfortable seeking God’s particular attention.
“and, that we may feel the working of your mercy, grant that we may serve you with all our heart.”
– Serving God with all our heart is the means by which we can feel the working of God’s mercy. It is indeed God’s mercy that allows us to return to his service after our sins. And, service to Him is the greatest gift because it is the only thing that fully satisfies the human heart.
Questions & Advice: Do you see service to God as a burden or a gift? Do you understand and believe that God really does pay attention to you as an individual, despite your smallness?
Read about true human happiness in the Catechism (1718-1729). Spend some of your daily prayer time thanking God for creating you and for his providence in your life. Thank him for the opportunity to serve him, above all in the mass. As it says in the second Eucharistic Prayer, we give thanks “that you have held us worthy to be in your presence and minister to you.”
