Collect taken from the memorial of the Most Holy Name of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God.
Collect: Grant, we pray, almighty God, that, for all who celebrate the glorious Name of the Blessed Virgin Mary, she may obtain your merciful favor. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son …
“Grant, we pray, almighty God, that, for all who celebrate the glorious Name of the Blessed Virgin Mary,”
– As with God’s name, the name of Jesus, and the name of anyone we love dearly, the name of Mary is something precious to us. It is also an acknowledgment of her special place in God’s plan and the authority given to her by God and by her Son, who is King of the Universe. On multiple occasions Saints and Exorcists have forced the devil to reveal what he fears the most; Mary’s name is always on that list.
“she may obtain your merciful favor.“
– Mary is our greatest intercessor. Without in any way diminishing her Son’s unique position as the only mediator between God and man, Mary participates in her Son’s role as intercessor. Jesus granted the favor she asked of him at the wedding at Cana, so we are confident in asking her to make this request for mercy on our behalf now.
Questions & Advice: What do you experience when you think of the name of Mary? Love? Reverence? Consolation? Gratitude? Are you ashamed of your Marian devotion or have you developed confidence in her and in the Church’s understanding of her role in our lives?
Read about our unity with Mary in prayer in the Catechism (2673-82). Spend some of your daily prayer time reflecting on you treat the name of Mary. Make every effort to pray a rosary today.
