Renew in your Church, we pray, O Lord, that spirit with which you endowed your Bishop Saint Augustine
– In each age, the Church needs men and women who are filled with the spirit of zeal and a thirst for the truth. St. Augustine was such a man, so we thank God for it even as we ask him to raise up others after his example and to make each of us like him in virtue and holiness.

that, filled with the same spirit, we may thirst for you, the sole fount of true wisdom, and seek you, the author of heavenly love.
– Above all, the spirit given by God calls us back to God. Being filled with that spirit causes us to thirst for wisdom, and to seek love. Both of these are ultimately found in the source of the very spirit that causes us to desire them.

Questions & Advice: Do you thirst for wisdom? Or are you content with merely wanting enough common sense to survive? How far are you willing to go in search of ultimate truth?

Read about God as Truth and Love in the Catechism (214-221). Spend some of your daily prayer time considering what wisdom means to you. Pray Solomon’s prayer for wisdom in the Book of Wisdom, chapter 9.

Sancte Augustine, ora pro nobis!
