Collect taken from the memorial of the Queenship of Mary.
Collect: O God, who made the Mother of your Son to be our Mother and our Queen, graciously grant that, sustained by her intercession, we may attain in the heavenly Kingdom the glory promised to your children. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son…
“O God, who made the Mother of your Son to be our Mother and our Queen,”
– Just as the Israelite kingdom had a “Queen Mother,” so does the kingdom of Heaven. This takes nothing away from God, of course, because it is precisely how He wants His kingdom to be governed.
“graciously grant that, sustained by her intercession, we may attain in the heavenly Kingdom the glory promised to your children.“
– Intercession, which means to ask on another’s behalf, is the special role that both mothers and queens have. Since God has given us a queen mother, we wisely invoke her to help us remain in the Kingdom of Heaven forever.
Questions & Advice: How do you understand Mary’s role in your faith? How often do you rely on Mary’s intercession?
Read about Mary as Mother and Queen in the Catechism (964-970). Pray the rosary today. I recommend the Glorious mysteries since we celebrate one of those mysteries today. If you already pray it daily, then consider adding a second rosary or at least pray one decade while meditating on the coronation of Mary.
