Collect taken from the feast of St. Pius X, Pope.
Collect: O God, who to safeguard the Catholic faith and to restore all things in Christ, filled Pope Saint Pius the Tenth with heavenly wisdom and apostolic fortitude, graciously grant that, following his teaching and example, we may gain an eternal prize. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son…
“O God, who to safeguard the Catholic faith and to restore all things in Christ, filled Pope Saint Pius the Tenth with heavenly wisdom and apostolic fortitude,”
– “To restore all things in Christ” was Pius X’s Papal motto. Invoking that motto, we recognize that the desire to do so, the wisdom to plan such a restoration, and the fortitude to act accordingly all come from God.
“graciously grant that, following his teaching and example, we may gain an eternal prize.”
– Pius X taught about Mary, doctrine, and the saints while he personally lived a life of great prayer and deliberate poverty. Following him in these areas is certainly and excellent way to strive after the eternal prize.
Questions & Advice: What is your attitude toward Pius X and toward all the Popes? Do you expect restoration in Christ to occur on its own? Do you see that call for restoration as a challenge to you personally?
Read some of what Pius X wrote about his plan and hope for restoration in Christ in the Encyclical E Supremi. Spend some of your daily prayer time reflecting on whether you are optimistic, pessimistic, or a person of Christian hope. Optimism expects things to work out on their own. Pessimism expects things to fail on their own. Hope, however, looks for things to improve, but does by motivating a person to work toward making it better.
