Collect taken from the feast of St. Cajetan, priest.
Collect: O God, who endowed the Priest Saint Cajetan with the grace of imitating the apostolic way of life, grant us, through his example and intercession, to trust in you at all times and to seek unceasingly your Kingdom. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son…
“O God, who endowed the Priest Saint Cajetan with the grace of imitating the apostolic way of life,”
– We acknowledge God’s generosity particularly in the form of Cajetan’s willingness to live in poverty and spend himself entirely in evangelization. Trust in the form of poverty and zeal in evangelization are connected and it is both of them together that we call the “apostolic way of life.”
“grant us, through his example and intercession, to trust in you at all times and to seek unceasingly your Kingdom.”
– Because of Cajetan’s own trust in God through poverty, we ask especially for the grace to live out Christ’s command to seek the Kingdom of God first and trust that all else will be provided.
Questions & Advice: Do you practice any kind of holy poverty? Is the Kingdom of God your first concern, or merely one among many? How much time, money, and energy do you spend on spreading the Gospel?
Read about poverty and trust in the Catechism (1544-57). Pray for a greater detachment and spend a few minutes reflecting on something that you can cut out of your life in the name of poverty and trust. Then, try to give it up.
