Daily Collection taken from today’s feast of the Archangels Michael, Gabriel, and Raphael.
Collect: O God, who dispose in marvelous order ministries both angelic and human, graciously grant that our life on earth may be defended by those who watch over us as they minister perpetually to you in heaven. Through our Lord Jesus Christ…
“O God, who dispose in marvelous order ministries both angelic and human”
— We praise God in particular for the great diversity and complementarity in his design for the world. Just as Christians work together to be one body in Christ, so the angels are each given their different tasks which they do for the glory of God.
“graciously grant that our life on earth may be defended by those who watch over us as they minister perpetually to you in heaven”
— We seek protection from demonic attack and temptation. Also, this prayer shows us how the angels minister to God by their service to us (defense). Thus, we can learn from this prayer that service to our fellow man, if done for the Love of God, is considered ministry to God Himself.
Advice: Do you resent others in the Church who seem to have a more important role? Greater “power?” Are you sincerely seeking God’s will for you through prayer and obedience to legitimate superiors (e.g. Bishop, the pastor of your parish, parents, teachers)?
Remember the guardian angel prayer? Pray that today and thank God for the protection of your guardian angels. Also, try to think of anyone who may be struggling with addiction or serious sin and spend some time in prayer asking God’s angels to help them in their battle.
